Our Learn2Run course

We’re afraid our Learn2Run course is on hold at the moment due to the pandemic. Once we know we’ll be able to run the full course we’ll set a new start date. Follow us on Facebook or keep checking back here to keep up to date.

The Huffers’ Committee

Would you like to improve how fit you are? Are you wishing to lose weight? Would you like to learn how to run?

We run a beginners course, similar to the NHS Couch to 5K program, that will not only build your ability to run, but also help you to love running.

Our beginners’ course is called Learn2Run, and takes place over 13 weeks. Each week we will meet to run as a group on a Wednesday evening at 6.15pm, and you will be give given two homework runs to do at another time. Over the course of the 13 weeks you will steadily build your stamina doing a combination of running and walking, while getting used to the routes we do as a club.

Our aim is to get you feeling confident in your abilities and build up your fitness so, eventually, you can take on any challenge you wish.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to confidently complete a parkrun, you’ll be a part of an England Athletics Affiliated running group, and you’ll have new friends. And, you get a certificate too to commemorate your achievement!

It costs £10 to join our Learn2Run course. For this you get the 13 week supportive training programme, as well as a year’s membership to the Woodthorpe Huffers and Puffers running and walking club. (If you would like to be individually affiliated to England Athletics in order to gain discounts and compete in races there will be a surcharge of £16 due on completion of the Learn2Run course)

We have taught hundreds of people to run over the past few years. Most of whom couldn’t run for a minute when they started, so don’t worry about your level of fitness, running experience or ability – we don’t care what level you start at as long as you’re prepared to get sweaty and have fun!

Our aim is to have most of you running 3 miles within 13 weeks. Some may take a little longer, if so we’ll be on hand to support you.
